12th International Academic Music Competition JURMALA 2011 for Chamber Music

May 24th – 28th 2011

For Piano duet, Chamber ensemble with piano (duos, trios, quartet and quintet), Mixed ensembles (up to eight musicians). For musicians aged 15-19 (Group A) and 20 to 25 (Group B). Application Deadline April 15th.

24th – 28th May, 2011

 

REGULATIONS OF THE COMPETITION

Competition takes place in three different categories:

  1. Piano duet (four hands (one or two pianos)

  2. Chamber ensemble (ensemble with pianos: duet, trio, quartet and quintet)

  3. Mix ensemble (combination till eight participants)

Age limit:

  • Group A – 15 to 19 year olds (inclusive)
  • Group B – 20 to 25 year olds (inclusive)

Duration of the programme:

  • Group A – from 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Group B – from 30 to 40 minutes.

 

REPERTOIRE

Piano duet:

  1. Original work of classicism period (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible)

  2. Original work of romanticism period (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible)

  3. Original work composed in 20th – 21st century (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible)

Repertoire performance by heart is not compulsory. Application form must include a copy of repertoire score.

Chamber ensemble:

  1. Original work of classicism period (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible ice)

  2. Original work of romanticism period (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible)

  3. Original work composed in 20th – 21st century (separate composition’s parts by choice are possible)

Application form must include a copy of repertoire score.

Mixed  ensemble:

  • Three compositions different in character and style, arrangements are possible. The author of arrangement must be specified. At least one original work is advisable. Application form must include a copy of repertoire score. Composition of ensemble must be constant.

 

PARTICIPATION RULES

The following documents should be mailed or sent till April 15, 2011 (if sent by post, the postmark date shall be until April 10, 2011, applications may be sent to an e-mail address, indicated in the contact list):

  • Application form,

  • A copy of the birth certificate or passport (for all ensemble participants),

  • A photo of duet or ensemble,

  • A copy of repertoire score

 

SCHEDULE OF THE COMPETITION

24.05.2011 – Registration of participants 10.00- 13.00

Opening ceremony of the competition and lottery at 13.00 (Jurmala Secondary Music School, Smilsu iela 7, Jurmala.)

25.05.2011 – Competition – Piano duet (Jurmala Secondary Music School, Smilsu iela 7, Jurmala.)

26.05.2011 – Competition – Chamber ensemble (Jurmala Secondary Music School, Smilsu iela 7, Jurmala.)

27.05.2011 – Competition – Mix ensemble (Jurmala Secondary Music School, Smilsu iela 7, Jurmala.)

28.05.2011 – Prise winner’s concert and award ceremony.

 

The Competition will be judged by the international jury. Prof. Alexander Bonduriansky will chair the jury.
All decisions rendered by the jury will be final and beyond appeal.
The competition owns the rights pertaining to the recording or broadcasting by radio, internet or television of the competition and winners concert.

PARTICIPATION FEE

  • Group A 30 EUR per each ensemble participant.
  • Group B 50 EUR per each ensemble participant.
