OnWings Festival Competition for Innovative Concert Presentation for Young Wind Ensembles

on .

The International Festival of Wind Playing OnWings! is taking place from the 19th until the 21st of May 2011 in the Dutch city of Groningen. Part of this festival is a unique presentation competition. Ensembles can sign up for two or three of these categories:

  • 19.05.2011 children's concert in De Oosterpoort, Groningen;

  • 19./20.05.2011 concert for a regular audience in De Oosterpoort, Groningen;

  • 21.05.2011 concert on a special venue for a new audience in the inner city of Groningen.

In June 2009 OnWings! presented itself for the first time with a grand opening! 55 concerts were given with in total 860 musicians during four fabulous festival days. In this coming edition OnWings! will be even bigger!

During these concerts the presentation and the communication with the audience take centre stage. Additionally the use of new media is stimulated. The ensembles (3 -15 musicians, majority wind players) are not only judged by a professional jury, also the audience can vote for their favourite ensemble via Twitter, Facebook, Hyves, SMS and our Homepage. The organisation of OnWings! seeks to really support young ensembles (under 36) at the start of their career. That's why all participants receive professional coaching as off April 1st and a DVD of their own concerts. Of course prize money (in total € 15 000) can be won, as well as inclusion into season programme of De Oosterpoort. Apart from this the ensembles will perform during the International Festival of Wind Playing and can make lots of international contacts.

Registration is open until the 1st of March 2011. More information is found on our website www.onwings.nl
