SUMMARY of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Chamber Ensemble Department history and professors can be found online (http://lmta.lt/index.php?id=1802). Professors of LAMT Chamber Ensemble Department are open to the propositions for masterclasses in English, German, Russian and Spanish.
NEW DEGREE PROGRAMME. In the school year of 2011/12, two new mandatory programs were launched in the Chamber Ensemble master program: practical studies in early music ensemble, and a theory course of instrumental ensemble music history.
COMPETITION. The Department conducted the 11th Lithuanian composers chamber music performance competition which took place on 2011 12 03. Nine ensembles of different composition (from duo to sextet) participated in the competition. Jury was led by prof.Gunta Sproge (Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music). In her comment for the LAMT Rector, prof. Sproge noted that ‚the participants showed a high level of professionalism. They gave stylistically accurate interpretations of music from different epoch – the works of the Lithuanian composers as well as classical and romantic pieces‘. Prof. G.Sproge also led masterclasses for chamber ensembles which were very informative, useful, and attracted great interest from students and proffesors. MASTERCLASSES. In the spring of 2012 there will several masterclasses organized in the Department: prof. Wolfgang Klos (viola, University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna), 12th-15th of March; prof.Keijo Aho (oboe, Sibelius Academy, Helsinki ), 23rd-27th April; prof. Marialena Fernandes (piano, University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna), 8th-12th of May.
In June 13th – 24th Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater is organizing the European Chamber Music Academy session in collaboration with the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, which is the headquarters of European Chamber Music Academy - ECMA (http://www.ecma-music.com). ECMA professors and students participate in chamber music festivals in Europe: Pablo Casals Festival in France (http://www.prades-festival-casals.com), Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland (http://www.kuhmofestival.fi/inenglish.htm) , Orlando Festival in Kerkrade, the Netherlands (http://www.orlandofestival.nl/index.php?11).

Petr Prause - violin, Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, prof. Yovan Markovitch - cello, Paris Conservatory, prof. Paavo Pohjola - violin, Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, prof. Zdislaw Lapinski - cello, Academy of Music, Krakow, prof. Julius Andrejevas - piano, Lithuanian Academy Music and Theatre, prof. Augustinas Vasiliauskas - cello, Lithuanian Academy Music and Theatre. During the session the lectures about the Lithuanian chamber music scene and the music management will be read as well as a lecture about the history of Lithuania will be read by a professor of Vilnius University.
CONCERTS. Piano quintet EFVIOLI (prof.A.Vasiliauskas class), the winner of 6th S. Vainiunas International Piano and Chamber Music Competition (Lithuania), will participate in the International Festival of Harms (Portugal) which will take place on 12th-14th of March 2012. During the festival Quintet will hold two concerts of different programs.
String quartet TOTO (Simas Tankevicius, Katazina Narkevic, Ugne Petrauskaite, Igne Pikalaviciute; prof. A. Vasiliauskas class) (Photo) will represent the Department in the International Student Chamber Music Festival in Tallinn on 04-06 of May 2012. Quartet program consists of Beethoven String Quartet No.7, op.59 and O.Balakauskas String Quartet No. 2. During the festival the masterclasses led by the Department professors Dalia Balsytė (piano), Petras Kunca (violine) and A. Vasiliauskas (cello) will take place.
Series of three chamber music concerts were organized in December 2011 in the LAMT concert halls. The variety of chamber music content, form and ensemble composition reflected in the programs – one could hear pieces from baroque to contemporary music, ensembles from duos to quintets, playing various instruments starting with traditional Lithuanian folk instruments and ending with percussion.
Traditional concert of National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts chamber music ensembles will be organized in the LAMT Chamber Hall on the 5th of March.
CELEBRATION. On the 7th of January the Department celebrated the 70th anniversary of the eminent Lithuanian composer and teacher of the Department prof. J.Andrejevas. Chamber ensembles from his class will perform in a concert on 19th of March.
A concert of students from prof. P. Kunca class will take place on March 18th to mark the celebration of 70th personal and 50th professional anniversaries. Congratulations to our colleague and an active member of ECMTA!
